Vanzo invites students to investigate the different languages around the depth of a gesture, body as the media, voice, relation with the other, with space, with objects, with the market. Students will work on transmission, individually and in groups. Focus will be on doing: practical exercises, physical work, readings and work analysis. On watching: exhibitions, theatre shows, performance, video as well as meeting artists, curators and experts. On transmitting: they will learn to relate their experiences.
At the end of the year, each one of them will discuss one of the readings and will present a personal project to a selected group of curators: Matteo Bergamini (Exibart), Paola Clerico (Case Chiuse) and art critic and curator Gabi Scardi, who will follow the course throughout the training.
Born in 1973 in Milan, Italy, where she lives and works.
Trained as an anthropologist and as an artist, Vanzo works with video, installation and performance. She investigates all dimensions of the human being, from the social to the mythical one, from the emotional to the political one. In her work reality and fiction form a tight knit unity that questions the representation of everyday world.
Her work has been shown in solo and group shows including: Jakarta Biennale, 2017; Manifesta11, Zuerich, 2016; Perspectif Cinema, Centre Pompidou, 2015; Prague Biennale 2011; Performa 09; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Walker Art Center, Museo Reina Sofia, Galleria Continua and many video festivals, including Kino der Kunst. Awards include the New York Art Residency at Columbia University, NYC and Acacia-Emerging Artist Award, Milan.
